About ASSET
Actress Julia Ormond has been a force for systemic and thoughtful change around trafficking and slavery as a Goodwill Ambassador and just recently started the Alliance to Stop Slavery and End Trafficking (ASSET) to leverage the lessons she’s learned, the contacts she’s made, and the solutions she’s seen work firsthand.

In 2007, ASSET helped launch the Congressional Caucus to Abolish Modern Slavery, organized the first-ever UN Security Council Arria on the intersect between trafficking in persons, terrorism, and organized crime, and worked in coalition with service-providers and NGOs to reform the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

We’re now in conversations with major apparel manufacturers to eradicate the taint of slavery from their cotton and working with Senator Darrel Steinberg to introduce a bill that would require any retailer or manufacturer doing business in the state of California to implement a policy aimed at eradicating slavery from their supply chain. We’re on the precipice of moving people beyond the myth that if you don’t frequent brothels, you don’t touch slavery, because the truth is, we all do. It’s in the coffee we drink, the food we eat, the clothing we wear, the computers we use, and the cell phones we can’t put down.
