What Can I Do To Help?

Actions you can take to join the modern-day abolitionist movement

  1. Write or call your Senators and Congressperson. Believe it or not, your Congressional representatives listen to you. They want your support. Write or call them and urge their support of the reauthorization of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (HR 3887 and S 3061). Also, encourage them to fully fund these important programs!

To find out your representatives names and contact information, visit http://www.house.gov/writerep/ for the House of Representatives and http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm for the US Senate.

  2. Educate yourself about the issue and the movement. In addition to reading books like Ending Slavery by Kevin Bales and Not For Sale by David Batstone, you can visit the web sites of leading, nongovernmental organizations for more information. These include:
    a. Asset Campaign (www.assetcampaign.org)
    b. Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking -- CAST (www.castla.org)
    c. Free the Slaves (www.freetheslaves.net)
    d. International Justice Mission (www.ijm.org)
    e. Not For Sale Campaign (www.notforsalecampaign.org)
    f. Polaris Project (www.polarisproject.org)
    g. Ricky Martin Foundation (www.rickymartinfoundation.org)
    h. Solidarity Center (www.solidaritycenter.org)
    i. Vital Voices (www.vitalvoices.org)
  3. Get others involved. This is an important and interesting topic. Talk to your friends about human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Share this flyer with them. Host a dinner to discuss the issue and brainstorm ways in which you can join the movement.

To find out more about this, please visit NotForSaleCampaign.org or contact Jennifer McDaniel at Not For Sale (jenm@notforsalecampaign.org).
